SP crop question

I've really gotten back into playing guitar lately. A recent shot I saw of Paul Simon made me give this SP a go. I'm torn between the crops. Normally I don't like to crop hands, but I seem to prefer #1. Any thoughts?

i think 2 balances out more but I like how 1 brings more focus to the face. I may have shown more guitar in it.

i don't think i can pick one over the other, i like them both. sorry not much help here :)

Everybody has hands. Everybody knows everybody has hands. IMO, unless the hands are important to telling the story, there's no reason to strain your composition just to include them. In this case, I think they're unnecessary. Had you been playing the guitar, however, they'd have been necessary.

1 definitely, 2 seems out of balance. Might need a tad more room above the head and darker could give a great mood.

Thanks, Charles. If I don't need to include my hand, I'll play around a bit more with the crop

New edit. Thanks for all the advice. The guitar is really beautiful. I think the inclusion of the instrument helps the overall shot.

I'd say #1 and the hands do play a part in it. In #1 you crop it clearly before them, in the latest one you can see the start of the hand but then a crop....not a really rough one but not as good of a composition in my opinion as #1.

I'd feature that guitar too, Mitch. Berry nice.

Very nice guitar, but my vote still goes for #1. #2 has to much empty space on the left and the crop on #1 gives more emotion. Also, leaving out parts of the guitar adds more mystery as to what it possibly looks like. Attaches the looker to the photo more. Love it!
