Young Padawan

This little guy (5 yrs old) is obsessed with all things Star Wars. He'd be pretty peeved if he knew I'd referred to him as a Padawan Learner, for he considers himself a Jedi Knight. 'S OK, he can't read yet. :D
I think my hair light's too hot, but he had a very short shelf-life, and I just didn't have time to mess with it. One thing I'm absolutely certain of . . . I could never support myself photographing kids.

I think it's great. The hairlight may be a tad too hot but not to the point of distraction. One thought - maybe another rim light on the right shoulder for a little more separation? I'm sure you're Padawan Learner's parents will be pleased.

That would have looked great. Thanks for your comments.

Ditto on the kicker lights to separate him. Nice job on him. Maybe try to saturate the light sword to make it glow more.

Thanks Charles. Super idea. How 'bout this? Duplicate layer in screen mode, with a shape blur and layer mask.

To get him to stand out more dupe the layer and do a levels adjustment and get the body rim where you want it and heck on the rest. Overlay it and erase what you don't want.

The light saber is great on #2. He just needs some more separation from the background.

Last one looks great on my monitor. Colors are great and he's easily visible from the BG. I can even see his shadow in the foreground. Only thing I do is clean up the grayish area on the floor on the very right bottom of the image. I make it so it's the same darkness as the rest of the foreground. Looks like a little light spill.

Yeah. It's the key light. He's a little dude, so the key and fill lights were pretty close to the floor. I tried messing with that early on, and ended up with it appearing like he was floating in space. Maybe I got carried away. I'll look at it again. Thanks.

Thanks Mitch. I'm thrilled with the way that came out. In the original, it just looked like a green plastic stick. I'm glad Charles goaded me into doing something about it.
