"San Francisco from Mount Tam"

Embarrassingly, this photo was taken on my first trip to Mount Tamalpais, after living in the Bay Area for over three years. But I like visiting locations over and over to build a rapport with the landscape – and when I lived in the Mid-Peninsula, that meant visiting the Mid-Peninsula Open Space Preserves. Now that I live in San Francisco, I see it as a chance to branch out, and start building a relationship with some North Bay landscapes. The Golden Gate National Recreation Center is top on my list, with its (relatively) towering mountains, its rolling hillsides, and its panoramic vistas of the bay, the Pacific Ocean, and the San Francisco skyline. My first visit to Mount Tam coincided with a beautiful sunset, and needless to say, I'll be coming back.

Lot of places to visit in the North Bay. Tam is one of the more beautiful spots and it leads you to other places (Stinson and Point Reyes being two more prominent places).

Nice view of the City.

I haven't been up to Mt. Tam in ages. Thanks for the reminder of what a great view there is from there.

There is an awesome hike that starts from the backside of Mount Tam, on the Hoo Koo E Koo trail. Little known trail, and empty. Check it out on one of your future trips!

Yes it does Ian! It used to be a favorite of me and my dog when he was younger and could handle an all day hike. Now at 10, he can't walk for more than 30 minutes. So I haven't done it in a couple years
