Mostly when I post here there are no words. This one calls for a story.
Yesterday on the way home from work, felt a need for a photo walk.

So parking in the Pico/Robertson area I started a short walk. Few minutes in and I walked up on a "Homeless" man sitting on the sidewalk.
Normally and firmly I adhere to the "No Bums Rule". Something about this one made me stop.
Maybe the light, his face, the jewelry from his neck, maybe all.

So I sat down in front of him and asked if he minded if I took some snaps. He nodded OK.
I handed him a couple cigarettes. While snapping I asked him how his year had been and if he hoped for a better New Year.
He said that he had an OK year and had a lot of irons in the Fire and so was looking forward to a better New Year.

I got up, dusted myself off and asked his name, he said my name is Benjamin.

Something made me shake all over!

Happy New Year Dgriners!

As long is it isn't 'shades of New Years, Future', you'll be okay. And seems , so will he! thumb.gif

How do you know he is homeless ? I talk to people on the street a lot and and some aren't necessarily homeless. The ones who are become nocturnal in the winter months.

I was not making assumptions or accusations.
I was simply telling a story with words & image that I am familiar with.

Sometimes a critique isn't needed. Just a little space, listening, looking and appreciation. Thanks for sharing Ben.

A touching story, Ben. And that would indeed be a chilling moment. There, but for...

I can imagine, Benjamin. I can imagine he was grateful that you asked and that you took a few minutes to connect.

I can only hope. Have not seem him since (it's my route to/from work).

Just think I best not forget that moment.
