550ex help

I have a 550ex which has quit adjusting to the focal length. It tries, pops, but the head inside doesn't move. Through the lens it looks like it may be off track.

Have a shoot in a few days so I'm thinking if I can get into it, maybe I can fix the problem (won't have to overnight a new one). I've taken the two screws out on the bottom of the head but the case didn't release.

Does anyone know how to open the head cover? A schematic would also be great :)

Thanks,
Greg

    No internal diagrams, sorry.

Take several pictures to document what you started with and what you did and then post them here. I am sure there will be interested readers here for your experience. And good luck!

Oh, and DO NOT touch the capacitor inside until you have discharged it!! They can carry a lethal jolt or a very unpleasant shock at the very least. This really is important. If you already understand this statement, I aplogize, do not be offended, but many folks do not realize the voltages present in the capacitors for a flash dischage unit. They can really pack a whollop! That may be why it is challenging to open the case for the flash unit, perhaps??

    Try this.

    I did not download it.

To underscore what PF said, if you do not know what you're looking at in
the flash assembly, take it to someone who does.

    Good luck.

Got her fixed - Sorry she's already back together so I can't post "what I did Photos". I could post a picture of a empty screw hole. Yep, lost one! :D

    Thanks for the warnings anyway.
