I already shared this one with Pathfinder, but I'm finding it very useful. If you are converting anything which has dynamic range issues and which you intend to process with curves, highlight/shadow, plate blending, &etc: Got to the "curves" tab of ACR and select the linear curve. The results won't look as snappy as first, but ACR will steal less detail in the highlights and shadows. The default is a little like the default settings of a P&S camera, designed to make 80% of the pictures look better without further work. If you are planning on doing that extra work, start with a linear curve in ACR.
If not now, when?
