pre-pay photoshoot option for clients

I am trying to create a way for clients to pre pay for their photoshoot through my website. The "packages" option is what the smugmug team has suggested, but that means the clients has to chose at least 1 print to purchase. This doesn't work since the photoshoot hasn't event taken place yet. What are other photographers doing so that clients can prepay for they photoshoot or at least prepay a portion of the fee to reserve their appointment?

    Take this at face value since I have not implemented any of these. I have seen and heard of any people adding a PayPal button to their sites and can obtain money that way. A more recent but Imo better service is Dwolla. I'm not sure how to integrate that service with a site, but may be worth looking into. As far as being able to take a general credit/debit card, I'm not sure but I bet others will chime in.
