A little help, please...

Hi,
I'm Si from the north of England and am completely new to SmugMug, and even newer to the forum.
So I apologise if these have been asked a thousand times already.
Okay, When I payed up, it looked really easy to view the "stats" of the photos, though I must confess that I am lacking in gray cells. When I look at shots on other sites such as Panoramio and Flickr, I can see the figures right away. How do I interpret the stats on SmugMug? When I view them, all I see are the quantity of images in any given gallery.
Also, I did notice as an introduction to SmugMug, a map with markers showing where your viewers are from... Where is that map? Is it something I have to download? If so, why can it not be built into the actual SmugMug so it doesn't have to be downloaded additionally?
I chose to use Smugmug because it looks damn good. But the truth is, I am finding it difficult to use. Though I acknowledge that that will be down to my inability to understand rather than SmugMug being difficult.
Also, I rarely use abbreviations. I have this innate old fashioned English disdain for the lazy, sloppy use of a perfectly good language. So I am somewhat perplexed by the abbreviations "API". Could someone please tell me what that is?
Best regards,
Si

Welcome to the SmugMug family! We will be more than happy to help you navigate your new SmugMug site. You can start at a higher overview of gallery stats, and then "drill down" into the stats of individual photos.

As for the map, I believe you are referring to the map that displays where your photos were taken. You can view this help article for more information.

I hope this helps!

Also, there are 3rd party apps that do allow you to track visitor locations. One such app is http://www.revolvermaps.com/
When you are ready to start customizing your site, check out this forum for some great help. It may be a little intimidating at first, but the users there are very good at walking new customers through customization.
