embedding slideshow without giving out album info

Hey folks, here is what I'm trying to achieve. Can anyone tell me if there is anyway to do this? Bottom line, I want to embed a slideshow from an unlisted but not password-protected virtual gallery on my blog. But i don't want people figure out the album URL by looking at the embed code.

This virtual gallery has a collection of photos from a password-protected gallery. In the original gallery, you can download the original size if you know the password. But because it's password protected, I can't create an slideshow for embedding purpose. That's the reason why I created a virtual but unlisted gallery. People can't really download the pictures from the slideshow itself but they can easily figure out the album URL from the code if know how the smugmug system works. I tried it successfully myself. Once they find the album URL, they will be able to download the original files because the photos in the virtual gallery inherit and same download properties as the original gallery. I only want people that i give the password to to be able to download the originals.

The only way I know to achieve this is to physically duplicate the files and put them in two different galleries. However, i really want to minimize the duplicates as much as possible. Does anyone knows any other way to achieve my goal?

Thank you very much!

Esther

    Hey Esther,

Let's begin with the most important part of this. The virtual images will retain the settings from your original gallery, regardless of what you have in the virtual gallery settings. That said, you should make copies of those images, and place the copies in the gallery you want to use to share. Make different settings in the new gallery. Unlisted, not password protected, but maybe right click protection on, and the largest viewable image size smaller than original.

The Configure Options in the Show Off code will allow you to choose whether you want the images to be clickable back to the gallery, among others. Please check out this link here, to see more: http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93259

Best of luck with the Slide Show!

Hi Lindy, thank you for the help. I do realize that i can make the slideshow unclickable. However one can find the album number and key if he looks at the page source.

so i guess you are saying if i want the originals 100% safe from unauthorized access the best way to do it, for now anyways, is to create duplicates in a new gallery with different download settings for public sharing purpose. Correct?
