LR4 and Smugmug publish services sync

I had to recover an older LR4 catalogue. I was able to recover all my photos but the catalogue is older so not all of my Smugmug galleries are listed. How do I tell Lightroom to look for missing Smugmug galleries?

You can get the LR plugin to sync over your category/gallery hierarchy by double-clicking on SmugMug in the publish services section to open the plugin settings. Check the "sync hierarchy" box, and click Sync Now. This will bring over your current list of SmugMug galleries/categories to the plugin.

You can also use the Sync Photos option on this same screen to match up the photos in your SmugMug galleries to the images in your currently selected LR catalog as well.

    Hope this helps!

Josh, I've been looking everywhere in LR land for a description of what the "sync photos" check box will do. Couldn't find it. I see your description and just want to double check before I try it that it won't sync every photo on sm to LR. I have hundreds (lots?) of galleries on my smugmug site that were loaded prior to my using the LR publish service. I don't want to inadvertently change any old galleries by checking this box - i.e. change some of the photos displayed on sm gallery that I might have edited (or renamed, or moved) after publishing to sm from jeff friedl(?) plugin. I also really don't want to have to handle thousands of exception/sync dialog boxes from LR either. SO, if checking the box ONLY affects the currently selected LR gallery, I can choose to sync galleries as I'm ready, if I'm ready. Are you sure that's exactly what happens?

    Thanks,

    Peter

    Peter,
If you enable the sync photos option in the "edit gallery" screen of any gallery, it would just apply to that gallery and sync the photos from the gallery on SmugMug with your Lightroom. Photos are not downloaded from SmugMug, rather the feature looks at what's in your Lightroom catalog and compares it to the contents of the gallery on SmugMug.

Of course, if you enable sync photos in the Lightroom publishing manager for your whole SmugMug account, it would do the sync for your whole site.

For more information on sync, check out the Lightroom plugin FAQ.

Thanks! That's exactly what I needed to know. I didn't know the gallery level sync options existed.
