Grey Day in Monterey

Haven't posted in the Landscape forum before. Lot's of beautiful work here. On Friday, my traditional, foggy luck was with me on a trip down Hwy 1 from Monterey. Here are few results to make the most of the weather. C&C appreciated.

1. Pacific Grove - My first-ever attempt at using a 10-stop ND filter

2. Asilomar - My second attempt ( a few miles later) using a 10-stop ND filter

3. Ghost Tree

4. Lone Cypress (Processed on an iPad with Snapseed)

Really like the second shot. I feel like there should be a little more to anchor my attention somewhere in the photo, but I love the rocks. Third shot is just overexposed enough that it doesn't quite cut it for me, but I love the placement of the tree and the details in it. But, in general, I still like it quite a bit. ..if only a little less exposure. Last shot. . .just fun and cool :).

Thanks, Ridgetop. It was a fun day, despite the grey and fog. Trying out the ND filter on the first two was really a kick. Have to admit, with the new gadget, I was more focused on exposure and timing than composition. Now that I've got a basic understanding of the technique I want to find more compelling composition to go with the effect.

The last one is classic. Nice.

I like the first two, particularly the second. I understand Ridgetop's point but that doesn't bother me.

The effect is seductive, but it won't carry an image that isn't otherwise well composed and worth seeing.

Thanks, wfeller. It's classic cliche location, so I decided to have fun messing with over the top processing with Snapseed on the iPad. Perhaps not a great photo, but great fun to take it and process it to death.

You got that right. I've seen some amazing stuff with this techique, but it takes location, location, location AND patience. A killer sunset wouldn't hurt either.
