It's a very intense hard hitting sport which I'm surprised that more Americans haven't taken under there wing, as it's not dissimilar to American Footy?.
I posted a load of pics last season but got little to no responce & was a bit dissapointed with the lack of input!, but, I've decided to give it another season, & I hope to convert some of you doubters to follow the ultimate hardman's gladetorial game. Kind regards Graham

I'll look forward to seeing more of your pictures!
There are 2 codes of Rugby in the UK
1 is Rugby Union & the other is Rugby League which has a more North of Englan Bias.
The one you probably saw was Union, which is a more Territorial style game where the ball is always "live" ie both of the teams can claim possesion in play at all times.
Rugby League, (which these are shots of), is more like American Football, where a team has to carry the ball to score a try (touchdown) or conversion (field goal), within a number of tackles (6) upon which, if they don't score, must surrender possession to the opposing side!.
There is no reset in tackles after a given yardage as in American footy just a "get to the try line" (endzone) in 6 moves! there are many technical variations of play just like grid iron & a brush up on the rules (there are plenty believe me), would make it more interesting. Kind regards Graham.

Rugby Union is the predominant version here in college and throughout men's and women's leagues. Not sure what area MJoliat lives, but I'll bet there is local rugby. I played throughout college and after in the NW. It is very popular throughout California/OR/WA and a couple concentrations on the east coast. Alas, unless the Eagles are playing internationally or in a Sevens Tourney it is rarely on TV here. We did have the international Sevens league in Las Vegas last year and that was fully televised.
Funny story, when playing for a men's team in Oregon we had a guy show up that was from New Zealand and wanted to join. Great! we think. Turns out he played League and we had to re-educate him. We were good friends and I would tease him that an American had to teach the Kiwi how to play rugby.
