Great shot! The black and white really brings the tree out. I've taken color shots of these trees often and am never satisfied with them, but seeing how good they look in black and white...

I like the composition and detail of the shot, the shadows are nicely lit, the highlights, though some are bright, are appropriate. What type of filter did you use? I like how you pulled out the blue of the sky so it contrasts with the tree itself.

Do you have a shot with the entire tree in it? Mess around with both cropping tighter as well as less, see what results you can come up with.

Welcome to Dgrin by the way! Hope you enjoy your stay, the people here are great. thumb.gif

(where was that shot taken, btw?)

The image was taken at Patriarch Grove in the Inyo National Forest. I think that it is like 11000 feet up on the California side. It is quit an amazing place. I took this image in July and got my self down poored with hail. If you get the chance you should head up there. It is open I belive only in the summer unless you want to make a 15 mile hike up the mountain.

I do have quit a bit of other images from up there and I will probably add a few more here shortly.

I used the Nikon 12-24 DX lens with a B&W slim polarizer.

    Thanks for taking a look.
