    I really like this composition. There are some artefacts in the conversion, specifically a halo around the man. I've seen this before in my own conversions when I've pushed the mid-contrast levels and toning.

    2nd version is better (no Halo)

    I like it. It feels desolate and cold but the subject seems equipped.

    I think I prefer where the first version was going, as is it is a bit overdone but good.

    While the second doesn't have the halos, I liked the pp direction the first was taking as well. It probably just needs a fresh start in thinking through how to get the same dynamic levels in play. Maybe another close look at the RAW file would help.
