I am playing in an indoor roller hockey tournament this coming weekend. Ive never been to the building we are playing in. I am going to hand my camera over to my wife who isnt that good with making adjustments on the fly. She will be using a d300s with a sigma 24-70mm. What my plan was to set it in aperture priority at f2.8 and use auto iso set to a max of 3200 and a minimum shutter speed of 800.
That sound like a good way to go?

As long as you have enough light, perfect. I'm guessing you will have to drop your shutter to 500 or less. Hopefully not. Maybe you will get there and the light will be great.

Wont think camera drop the shutter to what ever it needs to get the correct exposure? Even with my min. shutter at 1000 or 800 and my max iso at 3200, if the light does not allow for that, the camera shohld max out at the 3200 iso and use what ever ss to get the correct exposure right?

I'm not familiar with Nikon. On a Canon if it cannot expose properly given the parameters you have given it a red light flashes at you. Just thinking out loud - If you told it the min was 800 why would it go lower?

It will still allow you to take the photo. But the iso # will be in red, letting you know its at your max setting.
