Problem pointing domain here.

Went through the steps of pointing my domain here. Believe I have cname and a record correct. If I enter brooksimages.com into a browser I get the smugmug error page, so that gives me the impression I have entered it correctly.

Per the instructions, if I type in www.brookimages.com in the custom domain field on the style page, I get the error, "There was a problem with the entry. Please check the field and try again," as if that format is wrong. If I type in just brooksimages.com, I get, "That hostname doesn't appear to be valid. Your hostname needs to be setup using a CNAME record at your domain registrar."

Below are the records at my domain registrar. Any help appreciated.

brooksimages.com. 208.79.45.23 86400 A Published Edit | Delete

    Hi

It may take up to 72 hours for the changes you've made to propagate. If it still isn't working when that time is up, please contact us via email. We will need:

    * your smugmug nickname or a link to it (not the custom hostname)
    * your domain host name (who is your domain registrar)
    * your custom domain (some users have multiples so I need to know which to work on)
    * the login id at the domain host
    * the domain host password (I do not need your SmugMug login)

Change your domain password to something random and send me that new password.

    Cheers,

    Yes, Nick is correct....

Mine took about 24 hours to make it through the system and it worked.

So to clarify, brooksimages is now pointing to smugmug and that is why I get the 'these aren't the photos you are looking for' error page, but I can't enter my domain in the settings page, because smugmug doesn't know about it yet? Also, the specific error when I put a www. in front of it appears as if it doesn't like that format.

    Thanks for the quick answers.

    Heya dbvirago,

Can you let me know what your normal SmugMug URL is?

    Thanks!

    Darryl,

Would you mind sending me your log in information for your webhosting where the domain is set up? I can take a look.

    mbonocore@smugmug.com

    Thanks!

    Hi Darryl,

Did you transfer your domain or reconfigure name servers?

The SmugMug servers are still seeing the old info using inmotionhosting.com - your new settings should take effect when that expires (roughly another 1/2 day). We generally recommend to allow 48 hours for domain changes to take effect (even though some are near instantaneous), but 72 hours is not unusual if the name servers are changed.

All is well. Took about 26 hours or so. Interestingly, I tried brooksimages.com and still got the error, but immediately put in www.brooksimages and it works. At any rate, it's working and I appreciate the help and support
