From a trip last week to the Big Island. 11pm or so, no moon yet.

Lucky enough to be there on an amazingly clear night. The red above is volcanic ash being lit from below by the light from the caldera/lava. It was in a perfect circle above us for a while, but I have no fisheye to do it justice. There was rain moving in from the left(East). I think this shot is 45 seconds. I wanted to go longer, but the caldera was quite bright relative to the sky/stars. I would have liked to try putting my GND filters on to block out the caldera(upside down), but ran out of clear sky/time.

I like the color of the shot and the stars peaking through. Nicely done thumb.gif

    Really cool image!
Color me jealous - I'm dying to photograph the volcanoes.

Exceptionally well done. You should be rightfully proud of this one.

I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

Heck yeah! Was there last September and trying score a time when it wasn't raining is a feat enough in itself. Got some ok shots, but nothing like this. Absolutely sweet! Nice work!
