What Kids Like...Go Figure

My freshman daughter was in a High School dance concert the other night. All students taking dance are required to participate in the concert as part of their grade. These are beginners to advanced depending on the class.

I thought I got some pretty nice images considering that I didn't have a clue what was coming or when. Just as I was taking a shot, the lighting tech decided to flood the stage with an explosion of light. Shooting manual, the shot was WAY over exposed. Guess which shot is the favorite of my daughter and most liked on Facebook! Go figure...

The kids loved, number one obviously! :D
If us old schoolers pay attention to what the kids are doing these days we would notice that this is the norm.
To us it may be a bit appalling but what's that saying?
    Art is......?
Anyways, some nice shots under tough lighting conditions
    Kudos to you

I can see why they like 1. Lots of energy, this is the new look of photography. Technical perfection is old fashioned....

I like 1 the best as well. I think we as photographers sometimes need to step back from technical perfection and let how the image makes us feel be the criteria of good shot. I've posted landscapes on FB where I spent time editing the shot to perfection. Ithen post a similar shot taken with my camera phone with flaws and it gets liked more.

I think the reason 1 is liked is because it lests our mind fill in the blanks as it has an air of mystery.

Hmmmm, maybe I'll start over exposing everything and start referring to myself as an "artist" instead of "photographer".rolleyes1.gif

What I hate the most is that I really do try to break out of the box and be different but the standards are what sells......the wow gets them in the door but the checkbook says standards.
