How does Smugmug video playing work on Mac/PC and what does it require?

Does it require flash?
Or, does it automatically use HTML5 video in any browsers/platforms?
If the viewer's Mac computer doesn't have flash, is there any way to play the video?

Are there any viewer options for how to play the video?

    Hi,

The current video player uses Flash, which can be installed/updated free via the following link:

    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

However, when playing a video within a gallery via a mobile device such as the iphone, it will be played via HTML5.

This help article of yours says that QuickTime is required on the Mac. Is that not the case? I'm trying to troubleshoot a viewer who can't see a video and I need to know what he might be missing.

That used to be the case however the video player has been updated since that page was published. I will have that looked into.

Please write us at the helpdesk with the link to the video that doesn't seem to play and we can give it a check.

    Best Regards,
I've written back to the viewer to tell them to update their Adobe Flash installation. If that doesn't work for them, I'll connect with the helpdesk. I don't think there's anything wrong with the video as it works for other viewers.
