You keep checking and looking for just the right light...

And for the tide to be down or the sky to be clear and the wind to be low so the tripod will hold perfectly steady and the surf to be juuust right for the long exposure... And then finally there it is!!

Not that it's all rough. I got to go by the beach every day for a week and a half. Now if I could just catch the perfect moon cycle... or dare I dream it... a lightening strike offshore sometime this summer! Oh well. Have to keep checking on it I guess. It's surprisingly similar to hunting and fishing. There is a similar thrill.

Thanks Ian. Being new to this I'm still sorting out my preferences. Lightroom is just SO flexible in terms of establishing an image... but this seems to be where I leaning. I think this one will get printed and framed soon. It's not first on my short list but I did have to work for it which has it's own satisfaction. Again, similar to fishing and hunting. I keep seeing parallels there.

That's a really pretty shot, Duckz. I think I might have framed it with more ocean and less pier, though; something about that combination of colors and surf condition make me want a pic of the ocean with a pier in it, rather than a pic of the pier with the ocean in the background.

    But it's awful pretty.

I don't know why, Ian, but I was struck with amusement by your use of the exclamation point.

    Very calming picture!

Thanks Will. I Hear you. In this particular angle (which I could never get right before) what I was really going for was the detail on the pier itself all the way to the barnacle details with just the right colors. I was going for a bit more "architecture in the frame. I do have several variations in my album that approximate what you're talking about I think. But even in those I haven't quite nailed what I REALLY intended either. A good excuse to get back to the beach I suppose.. :D

Super nice, Steve. The long exposure was a good choice because the smooth water keeps the attention on the subject and gives a sense of surrealism. Good for you to follow a vision to fruition. thumb.gif Love the second two as well, particularly the last one.
