How to save or download own watermarked image - NOT screen capture or "Get a Link"

I'm pretty sure I've asked something similar before, but I couldn't find an answer to the exact problem I'm having now. I often have need of watermarked copies of images (usually in smaller sizes such as XL or X2) to post elsewhere on the web. The method I've been using does not work for uploading to Panoramio, because Panoramio sees those copies as screen shots, which they don't allow.
For the past couple years, I've been using the "Get a Link" tool. I click on the size I want, paste the link into another browser window I've opened, and then right-click to save the image to my home computer. That's been fine for Etsy & some other places for which I need watermarked images. It's a bit cumbersome, & I really think I once had an easier way to save watermarked images, but at least it works & is faster for me than taking images into PS individually. Btw, I have RCP turned on for most of my non-family galleries.
So, my problem: I've begun to use Panoramio again after not having done anything with it for awhile. Panoramio is the site through which photos can be submitted for Google Earth. I wanted to upload only watermarked images, but was hoping to simply download them from SmugMug & save them like I usually do. However, as I noted, the "Get a Link" tool makes those files appear or register to Panoramio's uploaders as a screen shot, even though I'm downloading them, then uploading from my computer. and the image simply won't upload. I know that's the problem, as I've read their rules and also run some tests on my own. I didn't have this problem a couple yrs ago, because I was watermarking individually, & don't want to take that kind of time now.
Anyone know of a way an owner can download their own watermarked, perhaps smaller copies of an image? If RCP makes this un-doable, it would be pretty easy for me to copy a bunch of images into a new private gallery that has no RCP. Ok, thank you for any suggestions.

Perhaps RapidFetcher does the same.
Some reason AlbumFetcher is not listed here any more, still works though.

With RCP on even you as the logged-in owner can't download display sizes from the gallery, you could only download the un-watermarked original size. You would need to get a link, paste in a new tab, and right-click to save from that tab, as you've described.
I'm not understanding how this other site has a problem with the file you've saved from the new tab; if you rename the file when downloading does the other site still have a problem when you try to upload? Perhaps it just refuses anything that has data in the file showing it was downloaded from the web?
You could use Rapid Fetcher to download a specific display size from your gallery, with the watermark attached. You can download the program here,

Once you've logged in using Rapid Fetcher you can select the gallery you want to download, and select the image size.
Other than that, you could make a copy and move the copies to a new gallery where RCP is disabled, that is an idea that would work. You could not use the Smart Gallery or Collect Photos options, since the protection settings on the virtual images are from the original gallery, so RCP would remain if you used smart gallery settings or collected the images.
If you need anything else, please let us know.

Thanks ever so much, Wendee (and Al) Yes, I just tried one of these methods, & it worked... that is: I copied a watermarked image to a gallery with no RCP. Then in the hover-box, clicked on "XLarge" under "View Sizes". That takes me to the image on its own screen. Then I right-clicked "Save Image As", and saved it to my computer's folder. That gave me a watermarked image in the size I wanted. I was able to upload that image to Panoramio, & it did not matter whether I changed the name of the file or just uploaded it directly with the exact filename it had when downloaded. Panoramio accepts it both ways. This method is much faster than "Get a Link" anyway, so I'll use it a lot.
Yes, Wendee- the earlier problem with Panoramio (with the "Get a Link" method) is that the site can tell it was downloaded from the web. It's actually a very important protection, I'm sure, because it prevents people from putting photos onto Google Earth that they did not photograph themselves. So I do appreciate that protection! Like I said, Panoramio is the way to get photos onto Google Earth; they accept or refuse them, etc. It's used by people all around the world, so their protections have to be strict and foolproof or they (or Google) could be in a lot of hot water.
I haven't yet tried the RapidFetcher method yet, & I may not even have the need to. But I guess it would save me the time of copying images to a new gallery? Also, there's just one small issue with the above method that I don't like. The filename you get when you right-click & save a watermarked image this way is completely unrecognizable from your original filename (unlike when you use "Owner Save" & get an original). I wish it would keep the original filename, & maybe just add some character to it. Do either of you know if the RapidFetcher method keeps something closer to the original filename?
Ok, thanks again. I tried to be detailed in my response to help anyone else who may have this same need.

The only thing I could think of would be the EXIF data. SM strips this in all the resized, watermarked images, whereas it wouldn't in Photoshop. If your original will upload and a Photoshopped image (with EXIF) will. Then try stripping the EXIF info in Photoshop and see if you can get it to reject that image. Maybe that will shed some light on what's going on.

Hi Anna Lisa,
When I clicked into a watermarked photo in the Lightbox view and Right Click---> Save As, I was able to upload that JPG to the Panoramio website. I also successfully uploaded using the Get A Link tool and Right Click ---> Save As and upload the JPG.
Can you give me some more detail as to what Panoramio is saying when you try to upload these jpegs?
Thanks!

Michael, Panoramio doesn't give much info at all as to why an image won't upload. The message is nearly identical every time... something about "server error; image failed..." with an accompanying "retry?" etc. (and retrying never works for these images, yet I'm able to upload images from that same camera, with intact dates, minutes later.) With all of my other images, I can download the watermarked images in several different ways, including some methods several of you recommended, and they work just fine.
So... anyone know what I could do to make those images acceptable? I don't understand the details of IPTC data or EXIF data very well & rarely do much with it. (as you can tell, I don't even know the difference between the two). I don't even know how to "strip" it, or how to manipulate it. When I edit images in PS that I intend to use for Stock, I do add keywords, titles, copyrights, etc. But that's about it, and that's a very small percentage of my images. I have LightRoom, but haven't been able to get far with using it as I haven't had time to study it in the past yr. I use CS4, in case that helps anyone. I haven't gotten used to the Bridge, either, so I just add the above data under "File > File Info" in PS. I'd really like to figure this out, as the problem will make 1000s of photos shot on a RI vacation unacceptable to Panoramio. :cry I did try to add a correct Date Taken to one of the faulty images, using the" File Info" I just mentioned in PS. That didn't help, & I'm sure it's because I didn't really correct anything internally; I simply added a Date to an otherwise blank field. Well, thanks for any ideas someone may have! --Anna Lisa [PS -- Al, I got AlbumFetcher & that'll be VERY handy for lots of uses. Thanks for the suggestion. It seems simple & effective -- perfect for me!]

Thanks a bunch, Samir. Does that mean I could probably put the correct dates in those photos? I'm assuming there's no way to know precisely when the photos were taken exactly, since the dating on the camera was messed up at the time? But I can at least know the dates from my calendar, and I could put in some plausible time.

In Lightroom, simply view the photo in the "Library" tab, a click on the date and time in the metadata. This should allow you to edit the capture time. See the screenshot.
Let me know if this helps!
