Stormy Weather Windmills

Driving through the Tehachapi Mountains on my way home from Death Valley a couple of days ago, I saw some incredible light on the wind generator farm. Fortunately an off-ramp appeared which I immediately took and grabbed this quick shot. An instant later this light was gone. No Photoshop, just basic levels in LR. It really looked just like this!

Very nice. I haven't seen any pics of the windmills similar to this one. Got the one in a million shot! :)

Nicely done! Were the blades still when you took the shot?

It's a great one, Joel. Got yourself a real winner.

Thanks, LM! I'm pretty sure they were spinning. The rest of the ones on the ridge were, but there are always a few stopped ones. I honestly can't say for sure what these particular ones were doing because the view I wanted for the shot happened to be in front of two fire engines with firefighters parked on the overpass for some reason and I felt a bit self-conscious and just wanted to grab a quick shot and get the heck out of there. lol3.gif

Thanks so much for the high praise, Tom! bowdown.gif

That's a WoW Joel! It's a very esthetic grouping and scene to boot!
To me (and it's really cool!), it has a slight "miniature" effect.

Thanks, Eric! That's funny, I can see what you mean about the miniature effect. I think long-lens (400mm) range compression is contributing to the look as well as the natural selective lighting.

Nice shot! I been by that location several times. You were lucky to find a road because there aren't many. Very nice lighting!

Thanks, Leonard. You're right, and this was a pretty weird exit. There was *nothing* there at all, just a closed road. These particular windmills were a small separate grouping on the right side of the highway when traveling towards Bakersfield. The overpass had a nice view of them.

It almost looks like a miniature! The color, the feel and pending storm is amazing. The irony is the stands that the windmills sit on remind me of an oil rig! :D (not saying oils rigs don't have their place!!!!)

Thanks, Randy. Good to see you. Something told me to keep my long zoom on the camera when I left DV.

Thanks, Anna Maria! Yeah, the lighting and the long-lens compression give it an interesting perspective. Oddly enough, this is just outside of Bakersfield which is oil-rig city. nod.gif
