So I bought a new 48" Octobox that I'm in love with. Thought I'd share a few shots from today. Also, I posted up a review on it in the Accessory forum. Here is a link to it for those interested:

Octobox as main (f/10) on CL; Round reflector for fill on CR; Gridded strip box (f/5.6) on CR
Same setup as above but I added another gridded strip box on CL (f/7.1)

For a more traditional octobox, which assembles like an older softbox design, I suggest checking out YouTube. The premise is easy enough to understand; the 'ribs' connect to a 'hub', inside of the cover.
In reality, I prefer to keep my softboxes assembled and I carry them in the back of my van. It means an extra trip, just for them, from the van to the venue (and back), but overall it's a time savings to carry them fully assembled.
Since the Ez-Pro is much easier to setup, it might be worth your investment.

Trudy... do check out Youtube for instructional videos on how to assemble a regular softbox. It is quite simple once you see someone do it.

I have three softboxes that aren't even out of the wrappers Trudy.
I use three Photek Softlighters (2 60" and 1 48") and LOVE them. Open the umbrella, attach the diffuser (or use as shoot through) and off you go. I cannot be bothered with assembling and disassembling all that noise.

Bil,
That's the whole point of this thread. The octobox I bought opens and closes EXACTLY how you just described. Open the box JUST LIKE AN umbrella, attach the diffuser and off you go.

This one is simple to set up, is inexpensive and based on the images shown here, does a fine job as well.
