I was in Maui last week, went on a whale-watching/snorkeling trip with the family, and decided to brave the saltwater spray and bring the 50D, 70-200, and teleconverter along. The gear all survived fine, and I wanted to share this shot:

There was definitely a certain amount of luck involved. We'd been seeing whales all day (fins and tails), and were motoring back to the harbor at Ma'alea. I was hanging out at the back of the boat, looking the other way when it came out of the water. I spun around and shot a dozen or so frames in burst mode. This was actually the first frame of that burst, and the only usable one. The second one was blurred and all of the others have the whale/splash half out of the top of the frame. (Stupid waves! :-) )
