Why does photo print to left side?

I am trying to print a 4x6 post card from elements (on my iMac) to my hp printer. In the print preview as well as when it actually prints, it prints the image to the left side and the image is not its true 4x6 size, more like 3.75x5.25. I created a canvas in elements at 4x6 with 250 res. I am trying all different types of printing configurations that are available as far as paper size, etc and nothing works. I even exported the image as a .jpg and opened it in ms word and tried it there, didnt bother printing it because it showed it over to the left in the preview.
Any ideas????????

Check the settings in your actual printer properties (vs the selections in Elements) - they also have to match what your editing software says it's doing (particularly paper size).

Was the photo/image cropped? Could be it's not a true 4x6. Make sure you check the box that says maintain aspect ratio before you do your cropping. If you do your cropping in Lightroom, make sure the lock on the right in the crop dialog box is closed. If it's not, just click on the lock, and it should close, which will maintain the selected aspect ratio, 4x6, 5x7, or 8x10 for instance, depending on which one you select.

Ok....I wouldn't say I figured out why it happens, but I figured out how to fix it. When I first open Elements and select to print my 4x6 the photo (4x6photo is selected in the choose paper size) will be placed to the left side of the page. See first screen shot. If I then go to the drop down for choose paper size, select US Letter, then select 4x6 photo again it places the 4x6 card correctly in the center of the page, see second screen shot. Anyone know why this happens????? Very strange.

Now simply by selected us letter, then reselecting 4x6 photo, i get is placed correctly. Again, why, lol
