Thank you both for commenting. The thick broken clouds created some dramatic light all that morning. It opened up on the peak as we were heading south from Mammoth on one of the Yellowstone snow coaches.

Love the mood and light on the peak. Would love to see the color version as well.

Thank you all for your comments. This was one of the few times that I knew I wanted a B&W when I clicked the shutter. The trees are wearing their winter gray/green foliage and because they are mostly in the shade, the camera renders the sunny snow yellow and the shaded snow and trees blue. Only the trees in the sun in the lower left have some color. I did do a color version for the family trip album (my wife isn't a big fan of B&W) and tried to fix the color problems.

It just doesn't look like what I saw.

Fabulous shot. It's much better in black and white. The sky is awesome.

Just wanted to add my "wow" to the growing list.

I, too, love the B&W version. It almost looks unreal. Very nice detail.

    Thanks for sharing :)

Really nice, and I like the conversion a lot. Have you thought about cropping the top a tad?

Thanks David, I did think about it and I agree it would make a stronger composition. I'm reluctant only because it is already a wide frame, a Nikon DX 4x6. Cropping off the top would give it more of a pano look. I could also come in a bit on the sides but I like soft curves of the foreground hills contrasted with the sharp peaks of the mountain. I dunno, I'll think on it some more. I'm getting ready to send it out for a large print so I will try a few other crops.
