Capturing images for stacking.

Two thoughts, using barrel of lens to adjust focus or focus rail.
Using Sigma 105mm DG macro.
Advantages or disadvantages of each.
With rails can control the focus change.
With barrel, point of previous focus spot could be lost.
May try both and find out which is easier.

    In practice I don't think it matters much which method you use as long as you can ensure overlapping DOF fields. As you say the rails may be more accurate in this regard.
    I think as long as you can judge where the picture is just OOF (out of focus) in the viewfinder and make sure this is cleanly in focus in the next slice you should be ok.

    I always use the lens barrel to focus, although I do own a focus rail. I've got so used to doing it now I find it quite easy. Mind you, you need good eyesight - that certainly helps.
