Mammoth Lakes area

I'm enjoying all the Eastern Sierra shots recently posted by others -- Convict Lake, Whitney, June loop & Mono. BTW, if you visit Convict, drop some bucks at the Convict Lake Inn's restaurant and get the beef wellington.

I was up at Mammoth couple weeks ago. While my partner skied, me and my newly ACL-less knee did some mid-day shooting. Light could have been better, but I did what I could.

Nice set. Crazy how much more snow there was a few weeks ago compared to when I was up there last weekend.

Nice job on the church. It is so hard to photograph that little gem without the freeway or side road getting too much into the picture.

    Thanks for the kind words!

That church was tough -- you can see 395 in the right side of my photo. I tried a different angle, hoping to get the snowy White Mtns in the background. The problem: the damn propane tank seen below.

As for the snow at Mammoth, despite the bad knee I went out and skied on the 11th and 12th in a very thin fleece and t-shirt; it was 60 degrees in town both days. I think it's going to be like last year in which access to the high country will come early and hopefully skeeters will be sooner rather than later.

If you ski, there's a great story at High Country News about climate change's impact on the ski industry. The story is based on Mammoth, which is higher and gets more snow than most resorts -- but still could have issues in the years ahead. Link follows it's behind a pay wall. http://www.hcn.org/issues/45.4/climate-change-turns-an-already-troubled-ski-industry-on-its-head
