Hi Y'all,

These past 3 days I've been with another visiting shooter, Chris Knight of Alabama. Say hi to Chris

46353294-L.jpg

First thing I try to with a visitor is to get the standard eagle on the power pole shot on the way to the wetlands

46353287-L.jpg

then we follow it up with the traditional eagle in THE TREE shot
46353289-L.jpg

then we try for an interesting raptor shot. Here's a hawk munching on a frog

46353291-L.jpg

since the birds in Alabama ain't as friendly as our Florida birds we do some close-ups
46353292-L.jpg

We went up to Merritt Island and got some spoonbill shots
46353295-L.jpg

the reddish egret was nice enough to do a "Reznick Flip" for us
46353297-L.jpg

then it was back to the wetlands for some duck shots
46353298-L.jpg

then finally the hawk was kind enough to do a real modeling session and let us get very close.

My rainy morning was the most fruitfull for birds that I have known. Maybe it was because no other humans were out whatsoever!

Looks like you all had fun! Are these birds tame yet?

Thanks Tom. It was a lucky catch. I just caught this shaping moving out of the corner of my eye and it was the hawk bringing his catch to the fence post.

Thanks Ginger. We did have fun and none of our birds are tame nor will they ever be. The eagle, in fact, is becoming a royal pain in the butt. (S)He is very skitterish and flies off as soon as it sees you. The eagles from last year were much calmer. This year's model has me running all over the swamp.

Although the book says we have eagles here, I've never seen one. At least
not here in the Bay Area. Lake Shasta but not here.

    These are very nice.

Thanks Jeff. I "removed the sky simply by blowing it out. The hawk was backlit so I needed a positive ev adjustment to properly expose him and by doing so I gave up the sky. I took around 200 shots of the hawk, After taking a bunch of shots I would move closer. This shot was when I was so close to the hawk taht I couldn't get his perch and all his tail feathers in the frame.

    Hey PF,

Actually the shooting should be better in February. Merritt Island is still a bit slow but has been really very active in past Februarys. The eagles are back in their nest just off the Wetlands so they will be regulars until their eggs hatch and the young-ins are ready to fly. I've seen the hawk with its mate so I'm guessing that they have set up housekeeping nearby and they should be hanging around also. I hav seen the hawks and the eagles on just about very visit to the wetlands recently.
