hi.

I have a Nikon D700 with the 70-200 F 2.8 VR2 and shoot out doors action. to be specific dirt bikes. If you could only buy one of the following which do you think would have the most significant impact on the potential quality of the pictures taken.

Buy a Nikon D4 and keep using the 70-200?

Buy a Nikon 200 F2 prime lens and stick with the D700?

Buy a Nikon 300 F2.8 prime lens and stick with the D700?

thank you.

Will a prime work? Have some motorsports photography, and I have seen sometimes you need to go wide a bit. If you do not want bank breaking Sigma 120-300 is a nice lens. I was checking it out, but its out of my budget, and with a 2x extender, it will be tooooo expensive.
So for my birding needs I may pick up the 50-500 OS(I have a d7000 btw)

Check out the resolution test of the Sigma

Unless you want to stick a TC, this lens is amazing. You can buy a newer camera + this lens. I think after selling your 70-200 you will need to invest only a little more.

I've shot MX with my 300 once or twice. The 70-200 is great lens. I'd probably go the D4 route.

I'm late to the party, but if you're really looking for help with daytime sports shooting, I'd look very closely at the Nikon 300mm f/4. It's a heck of a lot more nimble than the 300mm f/2.8 (which I use and love for night sports) way less money, but still a superb piece of kit.
