Recent family beach portraits

We've had a ton of jobs, but unfortunately the weather has been either cold or rainy most of the time. We had to move some of our big families inside because they had little kids who couldn't tolerate the wind/cold. (Some of the adults too!) So, unfortunately our busiest couple of weeks ever didn't translate into a lot of nice beach portraits. :dunno

But here are a couple from the last week that worked out pretty well:

A grey-ish day but it worked out well with their clothing choice:

(we had to revert back to the 1Diii on this job for running/walking photos temporarily and I just don't like it as well as the 5diii used in #1 and 2 above, which is why we switched in the first place - long story, but the short version is that I broke the LCD screen - er, just the glass, not the actual LCD - on the back of a 5dii and we had to shift some things around because we're worried about getting sand in it until we get it fixed... so the 5diii took the posed shots on this job and the 1diii took the candids. Normally the 5dii takes the posed shots and the 5diii takes the candids...)

Nice set! I like them, especially #1 & #2. I think #3 is just too flashy. Maybe you could double process it and tone the flash down on the people, but god job overall.

These are great. I prefer them to your last set. 3 is just a bit too "flashy".

From the uniform shadows under the chins and the small centered catch lights I'd guess that it was a large umbrella on axis up high.

For the first group here, we started later than we usually do and had to work pretty fast. (Customer got lost...)

For the second group, it was extremely overcast, so we didn't have to fight with the sunset/bright sun behind people. So lighting was a lot easier.

Rats! I still need quite a bit more practice on the reverse engineering.
