Hi

I think I have to leave Smugmug. This is actually a dirty trick to earn something. I make a deal with my customer for an image set this price free to download and after this deal the you take 15 % of this money. For what the hell we pay you now the 300 $ annual fee please !
Will it be possible that somebody can give me a maybe 12-14% of this money back?! Just one order with just one image - but its not a small value !!!

You should definitely get in touch with the SM Support Heroes via email if you haven't already done so.

And by the way, you panoramas are beautiful! The glaciers are stunning.

I apologize that you are feeling that SmugMug is playing a dirty trick, but we are very upfront about the 15% processing fee. We do not try to hide it, or catch you off guard. If you need to get a digital copy to your clients, you can always temporarily allow for Right Click--->Save so the client can save the original file size, or email, etc.

Again, I apologize for any confusion.

Sorry but actually I`m really pissed of .. Just choose the variant with a password gallery for this client and everything works fine. But then after the purchase of my customer this "trick" arrived in my mail - inbox.. :(:

The most *** part is the value was not really low. Just take an example it isn`t the value - just an example : 2000 $ - 15 % !!! you know why I`m angry now ?! I think its hard to find a correct reason for this costs ?!

I do sincerely apologize you were not aware of this. When you apply the price for digital downloads, we clearly display your profit for the price we set. I set up a test for $100 to show you that the we do display your profit, which is minus 15% and $0.01. This is very visible when you select the price for your digital download in your pricelists.

I do sincerely apologize for the confusion when you set up your price lists. Please feel free to send me a PM if you wish to discuss this offline.

So there's no way to actually make a "free download?" The only way to make a gallery freely downloadable (free to the user, free to me) is to enable right click and save? I was going to create a passworded gallery to a family event and not charge anything for downloading pictures.

Likewise, if I want to allow them to order prints at cost (no profit for me), do I still need to enter some kind of profit? For instance, the base price says 21 cents, profit equals 0, so price is 21 cents, does that include the processing fee? Or will I get nicked for something?

    Thanks.

To make a gallery available for free downloads you need to allow access to the Original and turn right click protection off. Download will be available when the viewer hovers over the photo.

If you want to add a download button, see # 9 in JFriend's Collection of javascript customizations.

I don't have a problem with SM taking a small cut for providing the service, but 15% for digital downloads is off the charts. Zenfolio charges about half that AND allows custom image use licenses rather than generic-only options provided by SM. This is one of the few, but VERY SIGNIFICANT, disadvantages to SmugMug vs. Zenfolio.

SmugMug: please bring your pricing for digital downloads in line with the industry (8% vs 15%), and allow us to customize our image use licenses - there are so many kinds of photographers, running so many kinds of businesses, you can't possibly hope to capture everyone's needs with such generic license terms.

    Now getting off my soap-box.

agreed with above. business plan prices are raised drastically with no real improvements to sales related features after waiting long for this new unveiled update.

15% for a digital file download is the highest in the industry. Best in industry for sales/cart though?

    zenfolio 8% and custom licenses
    gumtree 5%
    etc

As if anyone wonders why smugmug didn't include those things in the big upgrade... mwink.gif

Hard to believe smugmug thought the upgrade would blow our minds when it was missing not just features offered by the competition, but features offered by smugmug, before the upgrade. My mind was blown... but not in the way they were hoping.
