Antelope Canyon, AZ

During the second leg of my wonderful 12 days trip across Arizona, I went to Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon. While the Upper Antelope canyon was okay (and twice as expensive as the Lower Antelope Canyon), the Lower Antelope Canyon was spectacular - the colors and lighting are a photographer's dream. With a photo pass that costs $26, they let you remain (alone) in the canyon for 2 hours (it used to be 4 hours before). Compare that to the Upper where they charge $80 for a 2 hour photo tour (guided only). I liked the Lower Canyon so much that I went there on 3 occasions (twice in the morning and once in evening). Here are a few shots that I have processed.

And here is one taken in the Upper Canyon:

Thanks for looking,

These are all exposed perfectly with great detail! clap.gif

Only one i am not fond of is the last one due to the tilt. That one needs to be straightened.

Ugh! I can't believe I did not see that tilt - I guess sand does fall at an angle in the Canyon. rolleyes1.gifroflrolleyes1.gif

Thanks Aaron. Here is the amended version (I cropped it for a tighter composition).

Man, these are just super, Nikhil. You captured these at exactly the right time to eliminate hot-spots. Is that first shot lower Antelope Canyon as well? I don't think I've ever seen that composition before and I really like it. Anyway, great set. You should be very proud of these. bowdown.gif

Hey Joel - Long time. How've you been? Yes, that one was shot in Lower Antelope Canyon too. It's such a great place. I am stopping there one last time tomorrow AM on my way back to LA. I had such a great trip - Arches, Canyon Lands, Zion, Bryce, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon etc. Last 10 days have been awwwww-sooommee. clap.gifclapclap.gifclap

very nice! i visited the upper canyon back in '08, but didn't have time to hit the lower canyon as well. sounds like i should've taken the extra day and done it... *sigh* oh well, gives me something to look forward to when i retire! ;)

You definitely need to go to Lower Canyon. It's a photographer's dream. I am already planning a trip back this fall. Can't wait. :D

    These are fantastic!!! Great work!

The first shot is a feature in Lower Antelope Canyon, and I have a photo of the same feature, but with an entirely different look.

That's one thing that so amazing about these slot canyons. Even though we can photograph the same feature, we can come away with entirely different images.

    To demonstrate the difference.

it's on my list, for sure. i have to say, the iconic shot of the sunbeam in the upper canyon has been far and away my best-selling image, but it looks like the colors and shapes in the lower canyon are much more interesting...
