Any easy way to...

make all but one folder in my sight visible to the public?

My web site has been a combination of personal and professional photos since inception over 8 years ago. Now as things have evolved, I have accumulated a lot of personal family photos. These are mostly password protected, but my wife has increasingly become concerned about professional clients viewing these private galleries. This was recently exacerbated by a new job which would bring thousands of clients to my site.

I realize the easiest solution would be to set up two completely separate accounts (personal and professional). This would take a bit of work and would also result in increased cost going forward.

I would prefer to start now by burying all of my existing folders into one hidden, password protected file and then creating new professional folders as needed above this layer which would be easy and cleaner for clients to view without having access or even seeing my personal folders.

Can this be done?

    Hi Mitch,

Categories and subcategories on SmugMug don't really have any settings. Whether a category is visible on your homepage for visitors depends on whether it has any public galleries or not. If all galleries in a category are unlisted, that category won't show for visitors.

Within SmugMug there's no option to bulk change the options on a set of galleries. You could basically just change the setting on each gallery individually. There's the 'multiple galleries' tool in the gallery settings, but it still requires you to select each gallery manually or to apply the changes to all galleries on your site. See the "Need to change settings on lots of galleries?" section for details on using that tool.

If you don't want to change the galleries individually, to my knowledge, you could only look at a third party tool like Star Explorer, which allows you to select a group of galleries and, for example, make them all unlisted in one go. There may be other tools with similar capability listed on our hacks page
