Took a 1 day trip to Red Rock canyon (the one in CA). Sky was cloudless which made for bad sunset/sunrise, but good for some night shots. First time trying to use the tent in the foreground, I'll have to tone down the light next time. A few in no particular order:

I think I like the 3rd one the best myself. I didn't know there was a Red Rock Canyon in CA. After seeing these shots, I think I want to check it out. nod.gif

Very nice byoshi. I drove by Mojave area recently.
How was the camping experience there? Do you have favorite camping areas off 395?

It wasn't bad. There is 1 campground (Ricardo campground) with about 50 sites. A lot are close together but we ended up snagging a corner one that was pretty good. A lot of the sites are pushed up against the rock formations so you can go exploring. It got a bit windy, but other than that it was cool.

Our usual spot is in Sabrina, coming up from Bishop. Small campground, but each site is pretty secluded and quiet. I've stopped by Rock/McGee creek and North/South lakes for photos but have yet to camp there. Normally when we stay in Mammoth we stay in a condo....so I guess it would have to be Sabrina.

Thanks for the info. :) Yeah, it was pretty windy last time i went thru Mojave/Tehachipi area as well.
I visited Lake Sabrina first time this past Winter. I loved it. The road was closed so i hiked up to the Lake. It was
incredibly beautiful. I wish to go more into the backcountry for shooting. I have some clips here you may recognize.

Great series, Brandon. I love those night skies! Were those taken facing west? I'm seeing a glow toward the bottom of the frame that was probably caused by city lights in the distance.

If you want more views of that park, look for a movie from 1958 called The Big Country, starring Gregory Peck, Charlton Heston, Chuck Connors, and several other well-known actors of the 50s. It's an epic western, and all of the Blanco Canyon scenes were filmed in Red Rock Canyon, including the climax.

    Thanks everyone.

These are all single exposure, f/4, 30 sec, ISO-1600 with a headlamp placed inside the tent.

These are facing South. I'm guessing city lights from Mojave or California City.
