Well on the weekend I found a pair of Eastern Bluebirds and decided to see if I can capture a few shots of them in flight.

    Thanks you ashrugged.

Nikon D300S with 500mm Lens and a 1.7 Teleconverter. No baiting them at all, but this pair has a nesting box in this and are competing with the Tree Swallows. They are defending this nesting box though.

How these images had been taken is simple, I pulled back to give myself plenty of shooting room to allow me to capture them coming in to land on the nesting box. I would take my focus point on the edge of the nest box, and lock down the Wimberley Head in that one spot. As they come in to land I would fire off the camera with the hopes that they would be in focus, and in this case of these two images paid off.

It's great (and refreshing) to see such amazing bird photographs that are NOT of a bird of prey! Not that I dislike Eagles and Ospreys of course.

First of all thank you, and sometimes the small bird present themselves that you just cannot help but try to photograph them. I know what you mean about the birds of prey and nice to photograph them too when they are around the area as well.

    Thanks again.

All nice, but like 1 the best :)
Out of interest, did you consider a different crop, altering the L / R balance of neg space ?

Colourful subject, tho - some of these @ local venue'd be good ...

Thanks for your comments and happy that you liked the first image.

I did consider it, but was pressed for a bit of time and left the image they way it is here. What I wanted to do is crop the left as lot more tighter and then add canvas space to the front of the bird to give it a much better crop. Maybe I'll rework this one image down the road.

Thanks for your input on the crop and hope to add the fixed crop here soon.

I thought the same after seeing your comments that this is what you were saying. Now I'll have to rework this image in PS.
