Nice Name Trouble

Is there a way to name a gallery without using the idiotic Nice Name? Yet again, I can't name a gallery because part of the name has been used in an earlier gallery and now I get "Nice Name is already used" even though the new name is different and only uses part of the old name.

    Hi Wayne,

The nicename is required. Send an email to help@smugmug.com Copy and paste a link from the gallery that exists and let us know the new gallery name you want to create.
We'll respond when we get your message.

    Thanks,

The nicename is what goes in the URL and HAS to be unique for that part of the path. Why not just edit the nicename to be something slightly different than the thing it conflicts with? Having the nicename allows you to do decide how to handle these conflicts rather than Smugmug just appending 01 onto the end of it or some other such solution that rote computer code likes to do.

I'm being told Civil War Artillery School 2013 and Civil War Artillery School 2010, etc. are the same name and can't be used. Civil War Artillery School 1, Civil War Artillery School 2, etc, (which doesn't help at all), are ok to use.
I need a name describing the gallery, and the Smugmug solution isn't it.

nicenames are limited to 30 characters. The spaces are changed to dashes, so those count too. You'll need to shorten the names a few characters so the years will fit.

I have 5 other Civil War Artillery School galleries with the year, and they are ok?

In those galleries the nicename and the gallery name are different.

    For example:
the gallery Civil War Artillery School, 2009 has a nicename Civil-War-Artillery-School-3
the gallery Civil War Artillery School, 2010 has a nicename Civil-War-Artillery-School2010
You can see this in the URL when the gallery is displayed, or you can see it on the gallery customization screen. You just need to specify a different nicename for your new gallery.
