I took this in Custer State Park, South Dakota last year and I still kinda like it.

    EB,

I like it too -- a classic, stylish image with elegant lines and composition. Would make a good book cover, methinks. Great eye!

The sky is severely clipped on the histogram. If you open the picture in photoshop and then look at the histo you will see the sky pushing off the right side. Its not fixable.

The composition is OK but 2 shots layered together next time would make this better.

Shoot one for the sky and one for the ground. Then layer them or use hdr.

I really like the colour contrast of the sky and ground.. And I do like the whole idea of having a single tree.. the one thing that kinda bothers me though is that the tree looks like a big ball cause the photo was taken so far away.. I would move in a bit closer just so you could get some better definition between the tree, the trunk and the ground. Jamie

Thats a neat photo, the simplicity is great, I took a photo similar to that but developed and accidentally left it at school, kinda bummed about it. But great photo thumb.gif .

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions.

At the time I took this I didn't have a tripod with me (doesn't happen anymore) so the exposure is the best I could do at the time, although I do like the harsh contrast.

As far as getting closer, I did try that as much as I could and found that I liked this shot best. I didn't have access to the property to get REAL close, so that may have made a big difference.

    Thanks again for the comments.
