Some great shots here. Some good sportraits and some good photojournalism. Personally I don't care for the shots with only the ball in focus, or shots where the out of focus batter in the foreground obscures or distracts from the pitcher. I also find the blurred text in the background distracting, especially with the square pattern going on. I presume that's from shooting through a net or fence. IMHO

First thank you for viewing and taking the time to comment. First off the ball only focus was my first time and I thought was pretty cool but wont do that a lot. Second the blurred background with the lettering is that way from shooting with my 300mm and my 1.4 Tele @f4 the net has nothing to do with it as my focus goes way beyond the net. If you look at #6 the player in the background is blurred out for the same reason. I've always blurred out garbage in the background and fell that if the words on the wall were in focus that would make everything blend together and the focus wouldn't be on the pitcher like say the ball only focus. But as you say we have are likes and dislikes and own opinions. Thanks again for your opinion thats what this forum is all about.

Haha, no, I know what 420mm f/4 looks like. I wasn't saying the text was distracting because it's blurred, I was saying I find it distracting that it's there at all. I also find the square pattern in the text to make it even more distracting. I wonder if you had moved to the left of the catcher if there would be a nice blank wall behind the pitcher.

Shooting through a fence or net can result in the pattern of the fence/net showing up in the blurred background, like in my through-the-fence shot here:

I don't disagree with that being right or left of the pitcher but if you have seen a lot of my pics of pitchers are from many angles. And yes I no you no what 420mm f/4 looks like:D I just like the view of pitcher straight on and didn't notice the lettering until I went through them to edit. As for the batter that doesn't bother me as mutch.
