Did SmugMug pickup the Smugfolio app for Android?

I just flashed a new rom on my phone and was going through my apps list to install stuff. I used to always install an app called Smugfolio created by Snapwood Apps. It was a great app and I couldn't find it under it's normal name.

I then did a search for the app name on Google and the first result is the right name/app linking into the play store, but the app that appears is just titled SmugMug! Also created by SmugMug. The app reviews are clearly for the previously named one.

Guess I'm just wondering if you guys at SmugMug acquire the app or the developer? Either way, if the app continues to be the best one I've found, awesome for you guys and the developer.

Ha! Bloody Google is trying to give away our secrets via a bug in their app store... Those changes aren't supposed to be visible yet.

If he is working for you, can you let him (re) develop the ipad app next? My Samsung phone smugfolio app always worked, auto updated, and did what it should do. It has been user friendly and intuitive. Downloads everything, without being told, and when I needed to show it to a client or potential client, it hasn't embarrassed me by crashing. All the images on my site are there, whether Internet is available or not.

On the opposite extreme, the ipad app from smugmug crashes constantly, never auto updates, and really is not usable professionally or personally, ever. Maybe one day it will be like smugfolio. ( I have an almost new ipad mini, and the ipad app has been installed since it's much touted overhaul in the last few months.)

    Smurfy,

We are aware of the limitations of the iPad app. As a heavy iPad user myself, I can understand your frustrations. Having a clean experience on both the iPad and iPad mini is high on our priority list.

    Hey ZBlack,

    Okay, the announcement is up:

    http://news.smugmug.com/2013/06/17/new-android-app-upload-browse-and-share-on-smugmug/

Hopefully you also received an email from Brian Wood, the developer of the app. We tried not to mess with all the good things that made SmugFolio so popular, and just add a couple of things people have been requesting like OAuth and browsing other photographer's sites.

    Thanks,
    Baldy

    Hi Smurfy,

Developing for Apple is quite different so we have a different team on it, but it's nearing completion. Like SmugMug for Android, it will work on both iPads and iPhones.

Be interested to know if MY customers, when viewing my galleries, will be able to download the images directly to their phones? ipads, etc. Understanding a watermark is no longer a deterrent for many folks wanting images for free and a large obnoxious watermark destroys image quality.

    Regards,

    Wendell

    Hi Wendell,

I will see if I can get information from the Android developer for you. I don't have an Android right now, so it is hard for me to test personally.

    I will keep you updated.

    Wendell,

Brian, the developer, says "If they are other people's photos (a favorite user you're browsing), you cannot save locally or email the photos when the gallery is "protected".

If they are your own photos in your authenticated account, you can do whatever you want with them and the save local will download the largest available."

    I hope this helps!

Yes, thanks for the quick reply. I will double check the protection of my galleries, but confident that I have the right click protect setup for all galleries and visitors cannot download to their phones, etc.

    Best,

Great! Let us know if you see something otherwise.
