I'm not sure if there's enough of the plant in focus - I think perhaps not?

    I think you are right. At this magnification you need some of the leaf in focus. I think a higher mag shot with just the bud though would work better.

    Thanks very much.

    The highest magnification of my macro lens is 1:1, but I find it difficult to get it to focus at that although I'm not sure why.

    try , if possible , to rest your left hand onto something solid
    also use manual focus , most lenses cant handle auto-focus from short distance

    Have you tried stacking, or partial stacking? If there isn't much movement it's a good way to get more in focus.

    Flowers are so difficult to photograph well , I would be inclined to shoot against a pastel background , lawn ect using Nat light and a wide apperture so only a small part of the bud is in focus . Use ex comp to compensate for brighter background
