Button to download different size photos and videos

Zenfolio has a very nice feature that allows visitors to download different size photos or videos by showing a menu when hovering over an image. This is much neater and more intuative than using the R-click and is especially good for videos. Of course the use of this is controlled by various settings.
In SmugMug I have only been able to find a download button script that allows downloads of original size.
It would be much neater to have the facility in SmugMug to download different sizes rather than the clunky and amateur way it is implemented now.
Is there a way of doing this - really it should be part of the system?

The only method for downloading specific sizes is to select that size from the flyout menu, and then right-click save that photo to your computer. I'm not aware of any other way (advanced customization, or otherwise) that differs from this approach.

That's what I thought but it should not be like that. SmugMug is lagging behind Zenfolio and other similar sites in this functionality. It seems so obvious that it should be there, is there a reason for not having it? Surely SmugMug should be more user friendly in this respect especially for those of us who mainly shoot events and make the images freely available.
We want the professionalism of a custom domain and a well designed site but with an intuitive experience for the visitors.
I am afraid that I now exclusively use Zenfolio for this reason as I had too many people contact me unable to find out by themselves how to download - remember that many visitors are not that tec savvy. However I would prefer to use SmugMug and would hope that they listen to users and catch up on features that they are behind on.

3 things keeping me from migrating right now:

1. Download sizes
2. inability to move image around in 3:1 crop
3. Event system is really hard to navigate.
