Gemma,
It's a very nice scene and exposure - I like the moody sky.
I think what you may be unsure about is what I notice to be the lack of a strong subject or point of interest.
Also, the lack of a focal point draws attention to the OOF foreground - which, IMO, doesn't look quite right.
It's a nice image though...
Hi Gemma, I agree with Eric - the exposure is good and the red poppys really stand out. The sky is really interesting (looks like a typical english summers day ). If it was me, I would have liked to see what swapping the out of focus foreground for more of the dramatic sky looked like.
The things you've mentioned I wondered about myself and I tend to agree - I tried to find a focal point to include in the picture, but struggled as there wasn't one really.
No but I have seen photographs of just a field and sky that work well and I guess I was trying to achieve something similar. Whilst guidelines such as the rule of thirds, focal points, foreground interest etc. are useful I don't think they can't be veered away from too.

You got close in my view.....exposure rocks......how about reversing the ratio of sky and the meadow in the picture. Furthermore, if a sense of vastness can be captured, without sacrificing awesome foreground elements and gorgeous sky, then it would rock.

I did take other shots in a portrait orientation and different landscape ones too so I'll have another look at them.
