Before & After the cropping: A Sunfly

The first sunfly of the summer landed on the flagstone around my little pond today (actually a hoverfly, Helophilus pendulus).

I've been thinking about the crop factor of a 7D compared to the 5D Mk2 (I miss the extra length to a degree), I thought I would quickly try and show how good the crop is on the 5D Mk2 anyway, just for something to do, lol...

So here are the two before and after images, the first totally unedited and the second what I wanted it to look like after editing.

my vote is on the cropped version

perhaps a little bit cropped too much , but still better then the un-cropped version

Nice one Paul - was wondering about the sunfly common name. AFAIK helophile actually means marsh loving (hence why they are nearly always near ponds). So perhaps they should be pondfly.

I've not looked it up, but assumed that it may have come from them sunbathing around the ponds - I only see them when it's very warm and they usually sit on the flags close to the water, though once or twice yesterday, one did land on the aeration plants in the water...

Very nice, though I prefer the cropped version for its detail.

Excellent cropping example mate as I mentioned elsewhere. Lovely detail retained.
