    i dont know about $ , but i would say a Sigma
they are sharper then Nikkor , but Nikkor give better color
it depends on what your riding partner wants !!!!!
shorter ones are easier to handle and good for flowers and portraits
longer ones get you closer but are not easy to handle and expensive

I use a Tamron 90 which I'm sure comes in a Nikon fit- wonderful lens. It's actually hard to get a bad macro lens from a major manufacturer.

I've also got a Tamron 90mm macro. Mine is an older version but it's still super sharp and has great color. Macro is very new to me so I don't have a portfolio or anything yet to show you.

I picked mine up used for $300 at a localish shop. The newer version I think has a couple newer features, but I haven't done a real comparison. Definitely check the lens out.
