Image quality

When I link an image from my SmugMug site to DG or other forums the image always loses sharpness, and appears to be soft.

Does this have something to do with the viewing size allowed on my SmugMug site and the various forums auto down sizing of the link image?

Is there anything I can do to improve how my images are displayed when I link to a forum?

Sam

Sam, I will assume you are embedding rather than attaching an image. Is this less sharp image the same size as the original at SM, or are you sizing down a larger image for forum viewing?

Most of my galleries are set to display X3large. I use the share, get a link, embeddable links, large.

The resulting posted image on the forums is smaller than X3large.

I am thinking that the forums are applying their own downsizing to my images.

Sam, a way to test that here is to embed an original size image. A somewhat recent forum plug-in will initially display the image smaller with an option to click it, or the link below it, to increase it to full size. You could then open both side by side and compare them. What other forums might do is beyond our control.
