I like how greens transfer to black and white. You've achieved a very nice post-processing on this! From a composition perspective, I think it is too busy, simpler is better...

Thank you for your kind and helpful comments. It's actually the deep dark reds in this plant that renders this effect in black and white. I do not necessarily agree that simpler is always better, but in this case, you are absolutely right. I think I'm going to return to the raw file and play with it a bit more. Thanks again!

I agree on the composition but I think the B&W processing is superbly done.

Thanks Lauren! Btw, I love all the images on your website that were taken in Maine. I'm from downeast Maine myself (Lubec) - just spent a week there in June. We are now living in SW Indiana.

Check out my website when you get a chance as I have tons of images from Downeast Maine.

    Thanks again!

Scott, I enjoyed your galleries of the coast--left you a couple of comments too. My grandmother grew up in Eastport where her father worked in the sardine cannery. We visited once, when I was only 10. I visit my brother in mid-coast Maine once or twice a year and hope to spend a few days in Eastport during my next visit. I will keep you posted. Your shots of Quoddy make me eager to make that trip!

    Thanks!
Thank you Lauren. Eastport has an amazing 4th of July celebration. Whenever I'm home over the 4th, I'm always torn between Lubec and Eastport. The whole area is a treasure trove for us shutterbugs. It is way off the beaten path, but the older I get the more I appreciate that!
