Hi all,
I am currently smugmug trial version and I need some help to understand some of the features.
I would like to be able to share my images to facebook. That would be of course a public gallery but 1) I want the users to see a resized image of what I really have.
2) I am not sure what is the best way for that. Should I add a photo album in facebook and "transfer" my smugmug images there? Or give sort of link in facebook so people can see my smugmug images? In that case how facebook friends would be informed about my new uploads (see a thumbnail or something and allow them to comment).
3) Is it possible to do the reverse? Take images from facebook and put them in a smugmug gallery?
I would like to thank you in advance for your help
Regards
Alex

1+2. Our share button showing below each photo should be perfect for your purpose. Using that to share a photo to Facebook, we'd just post a thumbnail of the photo on Facebook along with your text and a link back to the photo in the gallery. So anyone interested in viewing the photo larger, could click the link or thumbnail to get to your gallery. That would also allow them to view the other photos in the gallery.
You can learn more on sharing to Facebook on this page.
3. We don't have a way to download photos from Facebook.

I currently have troubles sharing an image i have included in my trial account. I will try to share some screenshot later on.
4. What should I put here if I want my image to be no altered at all?
Sharpening
Amount:? Default: 0.200 (20%) Radius:? Default: 1.000 Threshold:? Default: 0.0500 Sigma:? Default: 1.000
I have uploaded a first image to my gallery and I tried to share it.
So the following popup appeared:
"Let's get started! Where would you like to publish these photos to?"
and I selected one of my albums in facebook (I have of course granted access to facebook)
then
"You can select up to 999 photos from ΜιαΒόλταΑκόμη to publish to Facebook. Simply click on a photo to select it. "
I selected the only image I have on gallery and I pressed the next button.
I selected the settings and the pop up counting from 4 appeared which ended up in a
"We've encountered an error, if the error persists, please contact support. "
from the link you sent me the following
"Just click the Share button you see on your gallery pages and select
"Be Social." We'll whisk you to a window containing five different social network options."
it does not appear on my trial account.
Are there any facebook acoounts where I can see how the smugmug sharing works?

That sharpening setting ONLY affects the display copy, not your original that you upload (which is used to print). All images benefit from a tiny amount of sharpening when viewing on a monitor/device but if you sharpen before upload you'll want to set the default to 0.

Can you let us know which gallery you're doing this with? It's likely you've got some privacy settings turned on that are preventing sharing.

Hi Alex,
Keep in mind there are 2 Facebook options in the "Share" menu. Within the "Be Social" tool, there is a tool that will allow you to post a link only, with a small thumbnail. This will direct the viewer to click on the link to see the photo larger, on your SmugMug site.
You can read more about it here. http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93255-how-can-i-share-on-social-sites-
The second way is by using the "Publish To Facebook" tool. This will actually take the photo on your SmugMug and publish it into a album on Facebook, either on your personal page or a Business page. You can choose to include the caption, and a link to either the Lightbox, Shopping Cart, etc.
You can include your watermarks, and limit the size published, if you worry about someone stealing your image (Facebook doesn't have Right Click protection) You can read more about it here.

Personally, I always use the "Publish To Facebook". On Facebook, photos are king. They get MUCH more interaction than links, videos, or status updates. So if you are looking to have your work seen, using the Publish to Facebook option is my recommendation.
You can see an example on this photo of a Puffin I posted a couple a days ago.

Hope this helps!
