Too dark? Would like some opinions.

Just got my TT560 flash and thought I would try it out. I didn't have a model so you get to see this ugly mug :wink. I've been going back and forth on this one, I really wanted a dark image and on my calibrated monitor and my iphone it looks good. But every other monitor I see it on it looks a bit dark. I was hoping to get some opinions. Thanks! Oh and on the technical side, it's a sb600 is a octabox camera right and the tt560 in a shoot thru umbrella camera left. Didn't have a blue gel so I added the blue tint in lightroom.

Depends on how dark you wanted it. Your not totally dark on my monitor but it is pleasing. The light smudge on your right cheek is bothersome.

it really depends. Even as a low key type image I would like to see it bumped up about 1/3 to 1/2 stop

It's not too dark on my monitor either, but I would like to see what it would look like with Qarik's suggestion and compare the two. I have my monitors calibrated as good as I can get them in comparison with my prints even though I haven't used the good stuff to do it with

You will see an average person's monitor can vary greatly from one to the other. I've had friends that tell me my photos don't look right, way too bright and the color seems weird. I show them a printed version of my photograph and tell them they may want to calibrate or fix their monitor and then advise them some simple techniques on how to do that

That is pretty dark, hard to say if it is TO dark as only you can decide. Most peoples monitors will have varying degrees of darkness so you won't get much of a concensus to your question.

I think you guys are probably right so I bumped up the exposure a bit with a curves and levels adjustment.

Like it better. Not on your image but something to watch out for. When using a strong kicker it will strongly bring out the facial texture. Notice the few moles you have. When you have a subject with rough skin or plenty of acne you will go crazy when trying to retouch. Learned that the hard way.

Thanks hack! I'll watch out for that, this is my first try at a two light setup. I don't really care if I ugly myself up but I figure a female might not like it so much.
