Musician portraits?

Heading to a rock orchestra camp, wanting to do some fun portraits with the campers and their instruments.

Would a black backdrop with several holes in it, and a wireless strobe behind it look good?

Then a few strobes on them of course.

Looking for ideas that will be easy to fly with and fun they could enjoy.

Thanks

What's the effect of the black+strobes trying to create? Not clear on that...

I'd find a really good graffitti - or even plain cement - wall, and shoot it grunge style. Either that, or just get them jamming!!

Kind of a funky starry effect shot at f/11-16 for some nice starbursts, and maybe even some colored gels behind the little holes. I like the graffiti idea. But its at a really nice college, don't want to be traveling with paint, and/or getting arrested for graffiti!

even if no graffiti, there's probably an alleyway or railings or parking lot or somewhere you can grunge up.with lighting and processing :)
